Early Settlement

Bacolod was established as a small settlement by the Spaniards, originally named "bakolod" meaning "stone hill" in the local language.

1849

Official Foundation

Bacolod was officially founded as a municipality on October 19, 1849, separating from the municipality of Bago.

City Charter

Bacolod was chartered as a city under Commonwealth Act No. 326, signed by President Manuel L. Quezon.
